Breaker Block: Failed Order Block Turned Reversal Level
Breaker Block (BB) is a broken Order Block, but the core point that makes Breaker Block's outstanding power is that it must be accompanied by a **liquidity sweep (Liquidity Sweep / Stop Hunt)** phase before the market structure shifts (MSS).
1. Working Mechanism of Bearish Breaker Block
Imagine the psychology and money flow in an uptrend turning to a downtrend:
- Create a liquidity sweep trap: The price pushed to create a higher peak than the previous peak to sweep away the Buy-side Liquidity (BSL) of the early short sellers and trigger the Buy Stop order of the chasing buyers.
- Structural Shift (MSS): Immediately after that, the price turned down sharply and closed the candle below the nearest bottom (MSS). This decrease broke the previous block of buy orders.
- Minimize stuck positions: Buyers chasing the peak are now stuck in a position with heavy losses. When the price regresses back to the peak/bottom area and is broken (the last bullish candlestick area is penetrated), Smart Money will activate a sell order and the stuck side will close a breakeven buy order (equivalent to a sell order). This double supply force creates an extremely strong price bounce down.
📷 Figure 6.1: The rhythm of scanning the old top liquidity (Stop Hunt) and breaking the old bottom structure (MSS) creates the premise for the formation of an actual Bearish Breaker Block on the Nasdaq chart.
2. The Difference Between OB And Breaker Block
| Criteria | Order Block (OB) | Breaker Block (BB) |
|---|---|---|
| Command block status | The order block has not been penetrated by the price (Fresh/Unmitigated). | The order block was decisively penetrated by the price. |
| Role after demolition | Loss of value as a barrier if overcome by a closing candle. | Reversing the roles of support ➔ resistance (or vice versa). |
| Required conditions | Must come with Displacement Momentum and FVG. | Must be accompanied by a liquidity sweep (Stop Hunt). |
3. Trading Rules & Risk Management With Breaker Block
- Entry point: When the price retests, the optimal entry point is the opening price of the candle forming the Breaker Block or at the 50% midpoint of this block.
- Stop Loss (SL): Place a safe stop loss just behind the top of the liquidity sweep (Stop Hunt) for Bearish Breaker, or the bottom of the sweep for Bullish Breaker.
- Filter trash Breaker noise: Avoid trading with Breaker Blocks that form from small candles, have no momentum, or do not create a clear moving structure in the entry time frame.
